Modernizing culture
Recognizing the need to amplify my impact and empower the teams I lead, I've focused on developing scalable processes that foster self-sufficiency and promote efficient collaboration. Here are a few examples of my approach:
Design guidelines
To streamline collaboration and ensure alignment across teams, I developed comprehensive design guidelines that served as a framework for UX and cross-functional partners (XFN). These guidelines provided clear expectations and processes for defining priorities, outlining requirements, and addressing open questions before project kickoff. This proactive approach resulted in a significant reduction in churn and a noticeable increase in overall project quality. The effectiveness of these guidelines was recognized across Facebook and Google, with teams adopting and templatizing the format for broader use within their respective organizations.
Systematic product excellence
The impact of these process improvements extended far beyond immediate efficiency gains. Notably, the programs have facilitated the identification and documentation of over 4,500 bugs, with over 1,000 of those triaged and addressed. Furthermore, the implementation of a weekly design bug hunt and a dedicated tracking system significantly enhanced our ability to monitor and maintain design quality. This initiative proved so successful that it was adopted across Google, becoming the standard for upholding design excellence and ensuring a consistent user experience.
Collaboration blocks
Recognizing the inherent challenges in fostering seamless collaboration, especially when working with diverse teams on complex problems, I developed "Collaboration Blocks" to elevate our collective approach. This structured framework promotes transparency and shared ownership by establishing a weekly cadence of design blocks, focus blocks, design reviews, and planning sessions. By fostering proactive communication, aligning on goals, and addressing constraints early on, we aim to reduce churn, improve design quality, and accelerate product development.
